"Cyclical"

Material: Non-vitrified Grogged Porcelain

Size: 3m in diameter

Cyclical is growing and evolving into a fantastic project.  I have decided to go big because I am going home.  It is worth the risk to make the most elaborate piece of work, a homage to the artists I admire most.

I am using every bit of clay from the bag, vessels, their bases from the bats, the scrapings from the plaster bat to create an explosive landscape.

This work has ceiling frame with articles that can be associated with the passing of time - birthday candles, ribbons, id cards, ages, wedding rings all hung from fishing wire in either sheer fabric or this may change to cellophane cones with the memorabilia be detonated from the pure white vessels below, stripping back all the consumerism, religion, traditions, elements associated with time to something that represents us beings as creatures sharing this planet.

Circling the white vessels will be a further ring of debris, with a contrasting black clay wave with marks that look as if the power of the explosion has only just happened, and the audience is witnessing the exact moment in slow motion. Linking them will be circular spiral patterns sketched onto the floor, graduating from white chalk to black charcoal.

Sketches of one possible outcome, trialing different heights for the vessels and overview sketch of the vessels

Spiral Patterns created in Photoshop and a photograph of the spiral pattern left behind when removing a newly made vessel from the pottery wheel. They are just everywhere.
